Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, governments around the world began targeting the extraordinary assets of Russian oligarchs, including some of the world’s most valuable superyachts.
For the BBC Our World documentary The Hunt for Russia’s Superyachts, Icon International spent several days working with the BBC team in Barcelona, providing local production support for the Spanish segment of the investigation.
Working with BBC producer, Icon helped coordinate contributors and filming logistics on the ground, adapting quickly as the editorial plan evolved and interviews were consolidated in Barcelona. We also provided the local camera operator and a complete filming package including camera, lighting and wireless audio equipment.
The documentary followed the international hunt for yachts linked to sanctioned Russian oligarchs and examined the complex web of ownership, wealth and jurisdiction surrounding attempts to identify and seize these extraordinary assets in the aftermath of the invasion of Ukraine.
Produced for the BBC’s Our World strand, the documentary was also made available through BBC Select in the United States and Canada.
