Kohonas follows Australian-Spanish comedian Simon Palomares as he returns to Spain to reconnect with his family and confront a more personal question: where does he truly belong, Spain or Australia?
Against that backdrop, Simon throws himself into the Spanish stand-up comedy scene, using comedy as a way into questions of family, identity, migration and belonging. SBS described the film as a humorous examination of a cross-cultural mid-life crisis.
Working under the original production title Kill or Die, the documentary was filmed extensively on location across Spain.
Nick Bolger served as Director of Photography, with Icon International providing cinematography, camera assistance, equipment, production vehicles and on-the-road production support throughout the Spanish shoot.
Produced by El Comico Productions, the completed documentary was broadcast by SBS Australia in 2009.
