Icon International provided production services in Barcelona for the BBC Natural History Unit as part of the Our Planet Earth impact campaign. Produced for the digital series accompanying the landmark natural history initiative, the film A Dengue Invasion explored the growing threat of mosquito-borne diseases in a warming climate and the scientific work being undertaken to predict and mitigate future outbreaks.
Filming took place at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, where climate scientist Professor Rachel Lowe discussed how advanced modelling and early warning systems are helping researchers understand the spread of dengue fever in vulnerable regions around the world. Alongside the interview, Icon captured atmospheric footage of the supercomputer, research environment and supporting visual sequences to illustrate the role of data science in tackling one of the world’s fastest-growing public health challenges.
Working remotely with the BBC Natural History Unit, Icon delivered broadcast-quality interviews and cinematic B-roll while following detailed editorial guidelines designed to maintain the intimate, observational style of the Our Planet Earth series.
