Icon International provided production services in Barcelona for Skate le Monde, the French-Canadian documentary series hosted by comedian and lifelong skateboarder Mathieu Cyr. Produced by Sphere Media for TV5 Québec Canada, the series explores cultures around the world through the shared language of skateboarding, revealing how local communities, architecture and public spaces shape each destination’s unique identity.
For the Barcelona episode, Icon worked closely with the production to showcase one of the world’s most influential skateboarding cities. Beyond its internationally recognised skate spots, Barcelona offered an opportunity to explore the relationship between urban design, public space and skate culture. Working alongside the editorial team, Icon helped identify locations and stories that reflected the city’s unique character, introducing the production to the people, places and communities that have made Barcelona a global destination for skateboarders.
Our contribution extended beyond traditional production support. Alongside production management, filming permits, local crew and logistics, Icon collaborated creatively on location development, helping shape an episode that balanced iconic skate landmarks with authentic neighbourhood experiences. The flexible nature of documentary filmmaking required an agile production approach, allowing the crew to respond naturally to the rhythm and spontaneity of life on Barcelona’s streets.
The finished programme offers a thoughtful portrait of Barcelona through the eyes of its skateboarding community, illustrating how local knowledge, creative collaboration and seamless production support can combine to elevate international factual storytelling.
