Hosted by Emmy Award-winning writer and producer Phil Rosenthal, the series explores cultures through food, meeting the people, traditions and communities behind every meal.
Filming took the production from the vibrant streets of San Sebastián to the dramatic fishing villages, rugged Atlantic coastline and mist-covered mountains that define northern Spain. Alongside the region’s breathtaking landscapes, the episode features some of the world’s most celebrated restaurants, including the legendary Asador Etxebarri and the Michelin-starred Elkano, offering viewers rare access to the chefs, traditions and craftsmanship that have made Basque cuisine internationally renowned.
Icon International delivered comprehensive production services throughout the shoot, securing many of the region’s most sought-after restaurant locations while managing production management, location scouting, filming permits, local crew, transport coordination, drone cinematography and production logistics. Beyond the culinary locations, Icon also captured the extraordinary natural beauty of the Basque Country through drone cinematography, showcasing dramatic cliffs, fishing harbours, rolling green mountains and the wild Cantabrian coastline that form the backdrop to the region’s unique identity. Combining aerial imagery with intimate documentary storytelling helped create a rich visual portrait of a place where landscape, culture and cuisine are inseparable.
