The idea for the video emerged during the production of the feature documentary Stay Homas, The Band That Shouldn’t Exist, giving Icon a unique insight into the band’s story at a pivotal moment in their career. That close creative relationship helped shape a music video that felt authentic to both the artists and the extraordinary journey they had begun. The result is the band’s first official music video after they signed with Sony Music Spain. And the music video clip Let It Out was born, an imaginative and uplifting film that reflected the optimism and creativity that had made the Barcelona trio an international phenomenon during the pandemic.
Directed by Ben Woolf and produced by Icon International, the video combines live action with meticulously crafted rotoscoped animation, transforming Barcelona into a colourful, dreamlike collage. Blending contemporary folk-pop with a playful visual language, the film follows the band on a journey from the rooftops where their story began to the concert stages that awaited them, celebrating a remarkable moment in their evolution as artists.
To realise the ambitious visual concept, Icon partnered with the talented team at Deluxe for editing and post-production. Their craftsmanship brought together live-action footage, animation and intricate compositing into a seamless visual experience, helping create the distinctive collage aesthetic that became the video’s defining signature.
The video was widely praised for its originality and emotional impact. Spanish radio network Cadena 100 described it as “an emotional and colourful journey” whose “refined post-production” transformed Stay Homas into animated cut-outs soaring above Barcelona before arriving on stage, capturing both the band’s optimism and their transition from lockdown terraces to international audiences.
Released by Sony Music Spain, Let It Out has since attracted more than 2 million views on YouTube, introducing Stay Homas’ first official music video to a global audience and marking an important milestone in the band’s evolution.
The production also received significant international recognition, winning Best Music Video at several film festivals, including the London Independent Film Awards and the Festigious International Film Festival, while receiving numerous additional awards, finalist selections and special jury recognitions throughout 2021. The project established Let It Out as one of the most celebrated independent music videos produced in Spain that year.
