Icon International provided production services in Spain for The Grand Tour as Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May crossed from France into Catalonia during Season 2’s Blast From The Past. Having previously supported the production team behind Top Gear, Icon was once again trusted to assist one of the world’s most recognisable motoring television franchises as filming continued into Spain.
The episode follows Clarkson and Hammond in two beautifully recreated 1950s British sports cars before James May unexpectedly joins the journey in a modern Honda Civic Type R. The Spanish leg of the production combined spectacular mountain roads with one of the country’s most remarkable motoring landmarks—the historic Autòdrom de Sitges-Terramar, the world’s oldest surviving banked racing circuit, where the presenters faced a high-speed challenge on its legendary concrete banking.
Working alongside the travelling production, Icon delivered comprehensive production services including production management, location coordination, filming permits, local crew, transport coordination and production logistics. Supporting a constantly moving automotive production required meticulous planning, efficient movement between locations and close coordination with local authorities, venue operators and specialist suppliers, ensuring filming remained flexible while maintaining the pace and spontaneity that define the series.
Productions centred around performance vehicles present a unique logistical challenge, with changing road environments, technical requirements and rapidly evolving shooting schedules. Icon’s local knowledge enabled the production to move efficiently from the French border through the Pyrenees and into Barcelona, while facilitating filming at one of Spain’s most iconic motorsport venues.
The completed episode combines breathtaking driving sequences with one of Europe’s most distinctive historic circuits, demonstrating Icon International’s ability to support ambitious international television productions that demand precision planning, mobility and seamless local execution.
