Icon International provided specialist production services for the Spanish filming of Top Gear, supporting one of the programme’s most technically ambitious road-trip episodes across central Spain. The production featured Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May driving a trio of high-performance convertible supercars through the country’s dramatic landscapes before arriving at the abandoned Ciudad Real International Airport and a vast unfinished residential development outside Madrid.

Working closely with the UK production team, Icon coordinated the complex logistics required for the episode’s aerial cinematography. This included sourcing and managing a twin-turbine helicopter equipped with a Cineflex gyro-stabilised camera system, together with the highly specialised aviation crew required to capture high-speed vehicle sequences safely and smoothly from the air.

Filming at extremely low altitude over an abandoned airport runway demanded meticulous planning and close coordination between the flight crew, camera operators and the ground production team. The aerial sequences were designed to follow the vehicles at high speed while maintaining the cinematic stability and precision that have become synonymous with Top Gear’s visual style.

Combining specialist aviation logistics with local production expertise, Icon helped deliver some of the episode’s most dynamic imagery, demonstrating our ability to support technically demanding productions where precision, safety and seamless coordination are essential.
